How do I become an Advocate
Why become an advocate?
People become advocates for many different reasons. Usually though, most people find it especially satisfying to know they have made an important, positive difference in another person’s life.
I just feel good helping to resolve issues and problems…
It’s satisfying to learn how determined and courageous people can be…
It’s rewarding to see how well advocacy works…I’ve learned a lot about dignity and humanity…
Sure, it isn’t always easy. There are challenges too.
It’s not always convenient to give up the time…you have to stop and really try to listen…help people choose the best options for themselves…carry a little of the worry when someone else is getting into trouble…
But many people people do it and find it rewarding to share their knowledge, skills and talents.
Get involved…get some advocacy training!
We provide orientation, training and ongoing support. Our training involves four sessions with our co-ordinator and an experienced advocate. We will provide you with background information about the Citizen Advocacy philosophy and principles and give you the skills to advocate effectively for someone in our programme.
